File Extension Pub

The file extension .pub is a proprietary data file format, primarily used by the Microsoft Office Publisher. This entry-level desktop publishing software allows for home-based and small enterprise publishing of brochures, pamphlets and newsletters. The Microsoft Office Publisher transforms normal word processing into more advanced copy that is print-ready.

By packaging the Microsoft Office Publisher in the Office Suite, it has brought desktop publishing to a wider audience. This basic version allows for customization, personalization and individualization of the documents. It is easy to create simple marketing and advertising materials in-house. Its mail merge capabilities work well with other basic Microsoft standards for sharing documents more efficiently across platforms. It also supports Web page and e-mail formats.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Susan K., Chalmette

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

Sylvia D. Franklin Park, San Francisco

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

Reggie E., N. Dakota

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

Carol S., Saskatchewan

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

Nick Shultz, Canberra, Australia

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

While Microsoft Office Publisher is fine for basic printing, it suffers from the recurring problem with fonts and layouts that might suddenly go haywire. The controls for setting these formats are hidden behind-the-scenes and very difficult to change. The rules are preset and not open to easy modification. More advanced publishing software corrects these Microsoft bugs.

The Microsoft Office Publisher will open and run these file extensions .pub. Not many other programs open or run the file extensions .pub. Microsoft does not have a viewer or plug-in for this .pub file extension and has prevented other publishers from providing a free software program to open these files. There have been some problems with compatibility amongst Microsoft Office Publisher products. A work-around is provided by the fact that Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 is available on a free trial basis for 60 days. Thus, you can get this free download to open any .pub file extensions you have laying around.

More Info Regarding File Extension Pub

Another option is converting the .pub file extension to a .pdf or other format for which you have a publishing software program. Adobe has more advanced publishing formats which empower publishers with better formatting, control of color and output media. Many free software and Web sites offer conversions to .pdf file extensions.

Microsoft is a trend setter. Other desktop publishers have also used the .pub file extension for desktop publishing - page layout and text design.

Adobe InDesign (usingPUB2ID plugin) opens the .pub file extension for Mac OS and Windows. While, of course, the best option is Microsoft Office Publisher.

Originally, the Aldus PageMaker used the .pub file extension. This received rave reviews early on for easy publishing. Adobe took over the product and discontinued it in 2004. The Adobe Postscript page is still essential for proper functioning of the next higher version of PageMaker, called Adobe InDesign.

Corel Ventura Publisher 10 is for business publishing. It transforms complex text and content into useful published documents. Its latest product has "enhanced stability", better compatibility with other popular publishing formats and supports XML imports. Useful table tags and better pre-press options provide a more advanced publishing environment. This product is aimed at enterprises wanting a single-source for rich media publication.

The file extension .pub is also used for the NeoBook NBW Publisher Source File. This firm provides royalty-free software for creating multimedia products combining text and graphics (games, greeting cards and catalogs). It is a useful product for publishing training materials and CD-ROMs. Convenient drag-and-drop commands guide the user to painting tools and other ways to create powerful animation. The NeoBook also plays animated .gif and flash files.

The Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) firm also uses the .pub file extension as storage for its public encryption key. This company provides products and services for mobile enterprise data protection and security.

The Electronic Arts company which publishes the Sims games, also uses the .pub file extension in its Family series. It allows for exchange of character data and game content amongst Sims customers.

If you are uncertain which of these entities is responsible for your .pub file extension, then check the binary file. This will give you hints about the creator of the file when you view the owner of the copyright.

Common errors occur because people don't have Microsoft Office Publisher and can't open the files. The best answer is conversion from the .pub file extension into more common file extension formats like .doc, .html or .pdf.
